All of us who entered the Society of Jesus were inspired to follow the path set by Ignatius Loyola and his companions when they took their vows in Paris on August 15, 1534.  Some of our Companions have stayed within the structure of the order that Loyola founded, but most of us have other lives and careers.  Many of us are no longer within the institutional Church, although some continue an active ministry in other groups--both Christian and  non-Christian.   Nonetheless, as a recent Father General said, there never really are "ex-Jesuits."  In some way each of us is still called to be "alter Christus"--a way to God for our fellow human beings.
